Guilds and heritage association
Guilds support the museum and heritage activities of the Finnish Border Guard’s detachments. Guild activities have primarily focused on events during the last wars and preserving the related traditions. Guilds are associations which are usually founded by retired Border Guard employees, reservists or, in some cases, also persons on active duty in the Border Guard.
Guilds cooperate with the Border Guard
A representative from a Border Guard detachment often serves as a member of the board in many guilds. Nearly all regional guilds are members of the Border and Coast Guard Heritage Association.
The following guilds support the activities of the Finnish Border Guard (cooperating detachment in brackets):
- Border Guard Guild of Helsinki (Headquarters of the Finnish Border Guard)
- Border Guard Guild of Western Uusimaa (Headquarters of the Finnish Border Guard)

- Border Guard Guild of Southeast Finland (Southeast Finland Border Guard District and Border and Coast Guard Academy)
- Border Guard Guild of North Karelia and sub-departments (North Karelia Border Guard District)
- Border Guard Guild of Kainuu (Kainuu Border Guard District)

- Gulf of Finland Coast Guard Guild (Gulf of Finland Coast Guard District)

Heritage Association
In addition to guilds, heritage activities are carried out by the Border and Coast Guard Heritage Association.
Established in 2010, the Border and Coast Guard Heritage Association includes 14 border and coast guard guilds. Nearly 2,000 members belong to the association via its member guilds. Colonel (ret.) Tero Kaakinen chairs the association.
