The Entry/Exit System (EES) will be introduced on 12 October 2025
The European Commission has confirmed that the new Entry/Exit System (EES) will be introduced on 12 October 2025.
The Entry/Exit System will improve the quality and efficiency of border checks. Furthermore, it offers the authorities of the Member States up-to-date and reliable information about non-EU nationals’ entries, exits and residence in the Schengen area.
In the EU-wide database, with a few exceptions, border crossings of non-EU nationals, as well as information on possible refused entries into the territory of the Member States is registered.
The implementation begins with a transitional stage
The Entry/Exit System is implemented to border checks during the six month long transitional stage. During this time the new methods are implemented and standardized. The transitional stage gives the authorities, the transport industry and travellers time to adjust to the changes.
