Estlink 2 electricity transmission cable damaged in the Baltic Sea on 25 Dec 2024

The electricity transmission cable has been cut in the sea area in Finland's exclusive economic zone about 55 km south of Loviisa. The Border Guard provides mutual assistance to the Police.

At present, the freighter flagged to the Cook Islands, Eagle S, is suspected to be involved in the incidents and carrying fuel as cargo. The vessel is under the control of the Finnish authorities southeast of the Porkkala cape.

The Border Guard provides mutual assistance to the Police in carrying out a technical investigation of the scene. The National Bureau of Investigation will provide information on the progress of the investigation.
