The Finnish Border Guard plans to replace two obsolete patrol vessels and one that has already been decommissioned with two modern multi-purpose vessels between 2025 and 2026.

10.10.2025 | On 26 September 2025, Bombardier handed over the MVX project’s first aircraft to the integrator, Sierra Nevada Company (SNC), in Montreal, Canada. After the handover and acceptance, the aircraft was flown to SNC’s aircraft integration centre in Hagerstown, Maryland, in the USA, in order to commence the installations. The registration number of the first aircraft will be OH-MVX.

26.8.2025 | The first aircraft in the Finnish Border Guard MVX project, OH-MVX, is soon to be completed on Bombardier's production line, in Montreal. The progress of the aircraft has been closely monitored by the MVX program.

7.12.2023 | The MVX program, which aims to procure two new multirole aircraft for the Finnish Border Guard, has decided to refine the tendering schedule. The new schedule aims to conclude a delivery contract during the summer of 2024.

27.6.2024 | The Finnish Border Guard's Dornier 228 surveillance aircraft are coming to the end of their life cycle. The aircraft will be replaced by two new multirole aircraft, the supplier of which has now been selected. The aircraft will be manufactured by Canadian Bombardier, and the system integration will be carried out by American Sierra Nevada Corporation.

30.5.2023 | The ongoing construction of the pilot of the eastern border barrier fence in Pelkola, Imatra, is an important phase in the project’s progress. The approximately three kilometres long pilot fence located nearby Imatra’s border crossing point is estimated to be complete in summer 2023.

13.12.2023 | The Finnish Border Guard’s Offshore Patrol Vessel 2025 project has been active since 2020. The project aims to replace obsolete patrol vessels with to new Turva class patrol vessels. The construction of these new vessels has now commenced, and the first vessel is estimated to be finished in 2025. The second vessel will be finished a year after this, in other words, during 2026. The new vessels shall be in active use till 2050s.

26.10.2023 | The eastern border barrier fence project has proceeded into the stage that the Finnish Border Guard has introduced the approximately three kilometres long barrier fence that was built during the pilot stage in Pelkola, Imatra. This stage was completed with a minor delay. The construction of the pilot fence was followed and analysed throughout the process. Experiences from this offer an excellent base for the construction of the next stage.
