Responsibility in the Finnish Border Guard

The work that the Finnish Border Guard puts into responsibility consists of everyday core and support duties defined by law. The Finnish Border Guard operates in many fields and has a broad impact on people and the environment. This offers a great opportunity to promote responsibility and sustainable development in the fields where the Border Guard has influence.

Published in 2021, the Finnish Border Guard’s responsibility plan reflects its commitment to sustainable development. The responsibility plan is based on the 17 United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The plan describes the Border Guard’s goals linked to the selected SDGs and the key measures required to implement them.

By taking action in line with the responsibility goals and the SDGs and reaching its targets, the Border Guard has increased its employees’ job satisfaction and occupational health, reduced absences, improved environmental protection, reduced its carbon dioxide emissions, developed marine pollution response and ensured and developed good governance and legal certainty.

The Finnish Border Guard’s responsibility plan was updated and integrated into the Border Guard’s performance plan for 2024 and the operational and financial plan for 2025–2028. The actions in accordance with the updated plan are reported in the 2024 financial statements.
