Military defence – In all conditions, every day
The Border Guard is prepared to secure territorial integrity and to defend the nation.
The Border Guard has maintained its readiness and has used its resources in a flexible manner required by the situation and the operational environment. We have increased our capability through material procurements and by training our personnel in the use of new equipment and powers. Crisis resilience has been developed methodically.
The Border Guard’s military defence capability has been developed in cooperation with the Finnish Defence Forces. Under the guidance of the Finnish Defence Forces, we have also participated in the operative planning of military defence.
Training days for those liable for service and our own personnel, as well as the number of arranged refresher exercise for reservists, increased compared to the previous year. We have initiated the reform of conscripts training, and the focus of this development is the reform of border jaeger training. The presentation of duties in military service at the Border Guard have also been updated at the website intti.fi/en.
Furthermore, the implementation of the changes required by our NATO membership continues. The Border Guard has sent a liaison officer to the NATO representation of Finland, and, in addition, will send an officer to NATO Joint Operation Command Headquarters in 2026. The Border Guard is a part of the alliance’s shared defence, and we develop our cooperation together with the Finnish Defence Forces.
We develop the competence of both border jaegers and personnel through continuous training. Competence is part of readiness.
