Several unauthorised national border crossings at Pukari, Kuusamo

This weekend, the Kainuu Border Guard announced that five Central European foreign persons had crossed the national border from Finland to Russia and back at Pukari, Kuusamo.

The persons in questions are students with residence in Finland, and were born in 1998–2001.

They are suspected of a national border violation, which is punishable by a fine or a maximum of one year in imprisonment.

In questioning conducted this weekend, the persons said they had been visiting Kuusamo and had chosen to use the Google Maps application to go and see the Russian border.

The Kainuu Border Guard continues to investigate the case. 

The Finnish Border Guard hereby reminds everyone that a border zone permit is required to enter the border zone. The border zone permit must be kept with you at all times in the border zone, and it must be presented to the Border Guard upon request.
